Cardiff and Vale UHB and Velindre NHS Trust were experiencing cancer patients arriving in an unfit state for their scheduled procedures and surgeries.

This resulted in delayed treatment for these ‘bounced’ patients, increased waiting times for others, and wasted valuable surgical time.

They knew there had to be a smarter way to manage the process – and that’s where we came in.

The Health Boards decided on a project that would prepare cancer patients in the run up to a treatment or procedure.

It would be called Prehab2Rehab – and data would be crucial for its success.

Managing data to maximise efficiency is what we do best, and we were able to help optimise the Prehab2Rehab pathway design by:

Providing clear patient data entry templates for the pharmacist teams leading the project on the ground

Designing effective data reporting systems – that would be easy to use, manage and deliver results

Acting as a system partner with Vision, EMIS, The National Data Resource and NWIS

The pathway’s intuitive process continues to better prepare cancer patients, cut wait times and minimise wasted surgical hours in South Wales.
